Did the skies seem hazy in Cody today? Earlier in the day, there was speculation that it was drifting smoke from fires in the Bridger-Teton National Forest.
Later on, while I was at my parents house, I was taking pics of the smoke lingering over Cody, and noticed what appeared to be smoke rising off a nearby mountain. I ventured out shortly after 8 PM, stopping to take pictures along the way.
Finally I arrived at the optimum viewpoint. There is a fire located about 30 miles up Southfork There was a member of the Forest Service Fire Squad there and he said that the fire was reported in about 4 this afternoon.
It is suspected to be natural caused, though the last lightning we had was Thursday. They expect the fire to calm down a bit tonight, but they also know that fires don’t always behave like they expect too. Tomorrow crews will be on the job to maintain control.
