I saw on an Oprah rerun at Grandma’s yesterday that there was this new holiday called National Siblings Day. Siblings are supposed to call each other and what not. Sorta like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Grandparent’s Day, but for siblings. How sweet. So family oriented.
Exception: I feel left out. I’m sure many of us do, in fact. That’s why I’m announcing National Only-Children’s Day. A day for those of us that don’t have siblings, to commemorate our only-childness (yup, I made that word up).
To give us some prep time for this year, let’s make the last Sunday of every July here on out National Only-Children’s Day. Call up or e-mail fellow only-children in your circle of influence and let them know about this great new holiday when we can embrace our only-childness.
And if you’re the parent of an only child, tell him (or her) how much they mean to you.

There was a time I would have WISHED I was in this club. But the older I get the more I see what a cool person my brother is. Maybe absence makes the heart grow fonder (I like him more now that I don’t have to live with him!)
